I am keen to use an Andriod device in with my Ardunio development. I use iPhone and iPad for my connected devices daily but it would appear that the Android platform lends itself to interfacing with Ardunio better than Apple devices.
I suspect that over time I will be wanting to utilise Bluetooth and Wifi on the Andriod platform I eventually use. I am currently looking at what is available on eBay of which there are plenty of Tablet and Phablets (not sure what a Phablets is?) anyways just wondering if other forum member have have success with any particular brand of tablet?
I would rather go with a tablet that other members have bought and found to do the job.....preferably on eBay as it is easy for me to acquire......but others brands and source other than eBay suggestion would be welcome.
Probably looking at a 8" to 10" versions.....
Appreciate any other suggestions when it come to selecting an Android device with interfacing to Arduino.
Since you live down here in God's Own, I might comment on two local extremes.
The Kogan 10" android tablet is the most frustratingly useless piece of technoshit ever foisted on an unsuspecting public and probably the best advertisement for an iPad Apple has ever had. I bought one for two reasons - the impending demise of the Sydney Morning Herald on paper, which hasn't happened, and datalogging from Arduino via bluetooth, at which I have never succeeded. The Kogan can see the HC06 bluetooth but refuses to communicate. In fairness, I have just tested a bluetooth keyboard with it, and it is fine.
The Huawei Y210 phone is the best $50 you will ever spend at Coles and you will probably wonder whatever possessed you to buy an iPhone. It does everything the Kogan doesn't do and is far better at doing the things the Kogan does do. It works first time and perfectly, using BlueTerm for local datalogging in realtime, and the results may be transferred to PC via WiFi at leisure. For me, the size and convenience of the phone makes the tablet a silly idea, even if it works.
The Huawei comes locked to Telstra but you can get it unlocked on eBay for $6. It even comes with a prepaid envelope so you can send your iPhone off for recycling. I can't speak highly enough of this device and it wouldn't surprise me if there are people out there who just buy it to talk to arduino and don't bother activating the phone.
