App enabled Wifi plant irrigation system

Hi!

I have ~12 houseplants which are very dear to me. I am planning a 5 week trip and wont be around to water them. I want to create an app based plant irrigation system that would detect moisture level of each plant, notify me, and water them accordingly. I am fairly new to working with Arduino board so would appreciate help and support.

A few questions I have are -

  1. Will I be able to control operations for individual plants via one arduino board?
  2. What sensors and modules would I need for setup.
  3. Any documentation around how to translate arduino readings to an iOS app.

Your topic has been moved to a more suitable location on the forum; see the sticky topics in Uncategorized - Arduino Forum as to the "why".

Do you have experience with writing phone Apps?

Do you have experience with networking in general?

I suggest you have a look at this:

No idea whether you will be able to do it, but the Arduino would certainly be capable

Look at the requirements you specified:

So you need some moisture sensors

So you'll need something to connect to your phone

will need something to apply water; eg, a pump or some sort of valve from a pressurised supply.
