Should that be updated?

If the copyright symbol is old, then for many it means that there is no regular maintenance, the website is outdated and there are no admins to take care of the website.

I think that (English) copyright marker has no more legal implications. Nowadays it simply denotes the first occurrence of a work, to solve possible priority discussions. Renewal is not required, first occurrence counts.
A latest revision can (should?) be marked differently or not at all.
I've read that too. But it also speaks for the fact that the forum is no longer regularly updated. Then it should be removed.
@pert
@PerryBebbington
This is not something I can comment on, both because I do not have the legal expertise to provide useful comment on English copyright law and I am not an employee of Arduino and do not set their policies.
OK. But thanks for the answer. Is there any way you can forward this? You are a moderator.
You included @pert, he is an Arduino employee, so you have brought to the attention of Arduino. I will not try to second guess his response. I only responded at all because you mentioned me in reply #3.
OK. That fits too. ![]()
Where are you seeing that? I admit it has been several years since I was involved, but as I recall, ONLY printed material can be copyrighted. You copyright something by submitting the first page of the document with the notice like you showed. However if you made ANY change to the printed material you resubmit and pay the fee.
We put the notice on the first page of every program listing, but NEVER submitted for copyrighting because the programs were in constant change.
When creating a website, it is customary to display a copyright at the bottom of the page. However, the absence of the © symbol and its copyright notice does not mean that the work is not protected.
Indeed, in Europe at least, all the elements present on the Internet (texts, images, videos, sound clips, computer codes, etc.) are de facto subject to copyright, even if access is free and without particular mention.
Copyright (this year) is a simple javascript line with getFullYear() in the CRM template. Are you just now aware of the high percentage of copyrighted pages not updated to the present year? First time interneting?
The forum as it is now saw the light in 2021. Development started in 2020 and I think that that is where it comes from.
No major changes were made to the forum since then.
I'm sure each of you is right. But if the copyright symbol is old, then for many it means that there is no regular maintenance, the website is outdated and there are no admins to take care of the website.
The old copyright symbol is at the bottom left of the desktop view.
What people think the date means and what the date actually means are two different things ![]()
I don’t think it’s a major issue
In common law world they probably did not register what they claim to be copyrighted anyway but may be they did then and so that’s the real date for the copyright.
It certainly doesn't matter; but then it shouldn't be there anymore, right? You just have to remove that with the next update.
If it’s the date things were copyrighted then it’s legit. But I agree it serves limited purpose
Notice you seem to be wandering the forum nooks and cranny's which is actually a GOOD THING.
Just remember that not everything you find may be a fault or error.
This particular incarnation of the forum follows on from the SMF version which became outdated and difficult to manage.
So much was IMPORTED from there so there may still be some tiny imperfections that nobody cares about.
There are still some MISSING features that some of us would still like to see.
The one I would like is the ability to use more features in the reply box that we had before.
So in short not everything is as it seems or a bug, fault, etc.
Some things don't carry the meaning you might think.
You are certainly right too. Can you describe in more detail what else could be changed?
Most of my work / ideas / suggestions / help etc etc. are still (AFAIK) in some private areas of Arduino. EG moderator/slack/test/ etc.
Some is still in here especially the "SMF" related items and a search should still bring up a lot of it.
Unfortunately I never got a complete set of data from the moderators section otherwise that too would be more publicly available.
My name has not changed so searching for "@ballscrewbob" will or should still bring up a large chunk of that work just so long as "glados aka system" has not been in destructive mode".
Thanks for the info!
