I want to build a signal injector/cable continuity tester for tracing wires using Arduino.
I need to be able to test for open/short/resistance. This would be for 12v/low voltage testing.
I also want to interface a DMM to also test voltage/amps on each wire that I test.
For example 8-12 ports connected to the Arduino where I can either send a signal to be traced or measure resistance/voltage/amps on any of the 12 connections.
I've looked at those wire trace toners and I want to be able to identify which cable is which by the signal being sent on each cable.
Does that sound possible?
Did you want to connect the Arduino to both ends of six wires to test the wires before installation or did you want to connect the Arduino one end of twelve wires with something else at the other end, to test the wire after installation?
It's possible, but without more detailed requirements or circuit diagram it's hard to tell how big the related circuit will be. For current measurement a current sensor is required for each wire, or relais to switch a power source with current measuring capabilities to all wires, on both ends.
If you cannot give a circuit diagram then look for a simpler beginner project, and read those many threads about cable testers in this forum.
