Yes, revision 3 is called "Arduino Uno R3". It was introduced in december 2011.
If I create a project on the 2012 version and it will work identically on the 2014?
There is no 2012 or 2014 version, there is only the "R3" version. It is written on the board.
See the photos, on the back is "board model R3".
You can also see that the R2 has the reset button in another location than the R3.
If you bought a fake Arduino Uno clone on Ebay in 2012, it might be the R2.
The Uno R2 will work with Ethernet Shield R2, and the Uno R3 will work with Ethernet Shield R3. So there are a few differences.

They should be the same, both are version R3. But you never know with those fake cheap clones.
The difference in chip size (DIL or TQFP) doesn't matter for the performance.
