Arduino uno appearing as device unknown

I am trying to get my arduino uno to communicate to the IDE, its not a clone arduino, the problem persists on both my computers, I cant update the driver manually because I just get this:

I've tried different cables, and I am still unable to get this arduino uno to show up under coms since I cannot update the drivers. any suggestions

Is this a first Uno that you try to connect to this PC or you have connected other arduinos to the PC before?

Have you followed these instructions

Does the arduino show in your usb tree ?

i have connected this Arduino in the past to put stuff on it but I flashed it today to start making other things. I have been using a teensy2++ during the time I was not actively using the Arduino.

My arduino uno shows in the device tree as device unknown. from the first link you sent me i have tried option 1 resulting in the picture above as for option 2 from that first link i have not tried that solution

I do know for a fact that this is my arduino uno

You must install the drivers first, see the post#3 for instructions

post #3 for link number 1 option2 gave me this outcome:

Choose the option "Install the driver manually"

Can you post images of
1: the whole of the device manager view with the USB devices expanded?
2: The USBTreeView window? Here is mine

Some more ideas

ive tried installing manually, unless im not understanding how to install it properly here is what it looks like when i install manually.

there you go that's better

Are you using IDE1? Could you try installing IDE2?

Have you tried connecting a different board (if you have one?)

I'm no expert but wondering if the board isnt recognised as an arduino the driver installation would fail

when i unplug and replug the arduino uno i got this to pop up under the drivers but i end up flashing it since it isnt the driver im looking for

also i do not have another board and it dosent show up in the ide tool>ports

appears as a Human Interface Devices

I'm running out of ideas; its difficult when I dont have the issue here to compare, and you dont have another board.
You could have a look at some of the ideas here - such as doing a loopback test.

It seems to me that the firmware on the atmega16U2 chip is gone. See the Test the Atmega16U2 chip caption on the link above

As a temporary solution: you can use teensy to program the Arduino
