Arduino Uno Mac OSX 10.6.8 avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Hi guys, I have finally received my Arduino Uno board. First time out of the box, I plug it in to upload a sample fade program onto it and it gives me the "avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding" error.

When I try to upload, L blinks repeatedly, then RX and TX blink repeatedly for one second, then L proceeds to blink as usual.

I have read many threads and have tried different methods of fixing this problem (holding reset at different times, reinstalling the software, uploading the Blink code) and nothing works.

Please let me know how to fix it. I have been waiting for a long time to get my hands on the board and I'm very disappointed that it won't work.

Thank you

Vlad

I have to often choose the port on which the board is connected. Try selecting different options in the list of available ports.

I've tried that already, it gives me the same error with the same flashing lights. Any other suggestions? :frowning:
