Arduino Uno R3 not detected in device manager

Why does my arduino not appear in Device Manager?
and it also doesn't play a sound when I plug the USB cable in, but the led leights in the board are on.

Are u sure that the USB cable is a cable capable of transmitting data and not only power? what type of USB cable are you using?

well, the USB cable already came with the Arduino when I bought it. It is also the same one that my friend has, and it just works fine

Make sure that your cable is insetted properly.

Did your Uno work in the past? If yes, you have damaged it in some way.

If not, try a different cable. I partially agree with the above comment although I have personally never seen a power-only standard USB cable.

the thing is, the first time I connected the cable to my laptop, it detected in the device manager, but in a matter of seconds. Then it has suddenly gone. When I tried to connect it again, there was no sound and it didn't appeared in the device manager.

In that case it got damaged for some reason or was already damaged in some way. If you did not do stupid things like having it laying on a metal table or having metal object laying underneath it, I would return it to the seller.

Check , if it’s not a genuine Arduino it may need a specific driver , the CH340
Is common

@hammy

You might be right. But it was initially detected according to OP. And there is no sound implying that there was a sound the first time.

Good point !

I had this problem a number of times, check and see how many devices are shown in device manager under com ports. If you have a bunch under your board, uninstall them then reconnect your Arduino board as see if it then works.

the problem is my laptop doesn't even detect the USB cable, there is no sound, and nothing changes in the device manager when I plug in the board.

Does the board and cable recognize on your friends computer, if so then its definitely your laptop. I assume you only have the one USB port on that laptop?

It's actually two ports. One is for my mouse, and it works finee

If your system doesn't detect your Uno or any other one check this out, I had to reinstall drivers a while back as I had a similar issue. What was happening to me was the com port was filling up and not clearing (com1), (com2) etc. once it would hit (com8) nothing would happen and I thought the board was fried. Once I cleared and reinstalled device manager it all works, going on about 3 months now and they auto clear.

I have the same problem on one pc but on the other one it works proper...
