That's pretty much the same issue I run about: IF YOU POWER THROUGH VIN A REGULATED 5V THE WIFI WILL NOT WORK. I am not even able to reset it to access point mode, so the board for me is basically unusable (see my earlier post about Power question). It is a bit incredible for me that this issue is not checked!
