I hope this post is in the correct area, apologies if not! A while back, I bought an ATTiny85 along with a development board. Just getting around to using in and thought I'd confirm pin connections. I used a multimeter on the Ohms scale set to give a beep to signify a connection. I am getting a beep when I test between 5V & GND, 5V & VIN and GND & VIN. I am also getting other shorts between various pins which I can list if required. I am no electronics expert but this doesn't seem right. It may be because of other components on the board that I am getting these spurious readings but I suspect I have a dud. Thoughts please.
The Attiny has statical electricity protection clamping diodes from GND to pin to VCC.
So I suspect that your buzzer is sending current from GND via these diodes to VCC.
The best way to destroy these diodes is connecting the power backwards to the Attiny85
Thank you for your speedy reply, does that mean I have goosed my board then?
Usually the beeping function of a multimeter has limited current. I just measured a very old one of mine with another Ampere meter and it beeps with 15mA. The clamping diodes would survive that.
So unlikely your Tiny got damaged.
Thank you!
Have you bought the Board and ATtiny85 seperately? If yes, then you need to store Digispark Bootloader Program into ATtiny85, install the ATTinyCore, and Install the Digisoark Driver to do programming.
Bought them together, not sure what I have loaded into Arduino, I’ll check it out. Thank you for your reply, I may be in touch if I have any problems.
There is a onBoard LED on the Cilone Digispark ATtiny85 Dev Board. Upload a blink program and chcek that it blinks,
I will give it a go and see what happens, thanks!
Cannot get the Blink program to work. I have downloaded something that let's me choose the ATTiny 85, but can't remember what else I did.
When you plugged in the Colone Digispark ATtiny85 DEv Board into a USB Port of the PC, do you hear a ding dong sound and the Board is recognized as a USB Device?
No, I did not get any indication that it was recognised as a USB device.
I have the David A. Mellis ATTiny installed.
Please, follow the procedures of Section-19.2.2 of the attached file to get your Colone Digispark ATtiny85 Dev Board working.
