Searched the Forum and various websites re "avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 4 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x00 avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding"

MacBook Pro macOS Catalina version 10.15.6

Arduino UNO and sketch were working. Next day;

Uploading example sketches does not work - disconnecting the board from the USB port has no effect and does not show an alert re board not connected to Port. The Tools>Get Board Info results in no response.

Have reinstalled the IDE software - to no avail. Regardless of sketch or whether the board is connected via the USB port - the result is the same. My take: the problem appears to be the software - are there extra steps in deleting the code from the applications folder and reinstalling? Thank you,

thank you for your consideration - I finally resolved the issue (1day) which was confusion re the port on the Mac.
