I am from UK. If anyone can suggest other quicker/cheaper shops that'd be great. I also have no experience with hardware. I have a full time programming job so cannot invest time into studying hardware yet.
If you don't want to invest time in solving problems with cheap hardware, buy an official Arduino Leonardo or Arduino Micro.
You can buy official Arduino boards often from local sellers. In many countries are sellers that sell Arduino, and also Sparkfun and Adafruit items. That is the quickest and most reliable way to start with Arduino.
For the UK, this is one of them : https://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/

1 : You don't need that.
2 : You don't need that.
3 : That is a Pro Micro compatible. I prefer a Leonardo or Micro. I don't know the difference between a "Micro" and a "Pro Micro".

If you can stand the 3 - 4 weeks wait for delivery, ordering from China is your cheapest option (and likely to get cheaper soon, due to the recent 1.9% devaluation of the Yuan). I've had good service from Alibaba, BangGood and DealExtreme.
At the other extreme, if you don't mind paying through the nose for immediate purchases, Maplin carry a fairly good selection of Arduinos and shields. They have shops throughout most of the UK.
For mail order in the UK, as well as CoolComponents, you could also try Oomlout.
