Best screen for arduino in terms of reliability?

Hi guys, I bought 3 5110 screens, and 2 of them are DOA, I was using the working one on my arduino mega, when I switched it to my arduino uno, the screen went blank, switched it back to arduino mega, still blank. Are there any screens that is more reliable than these? Preferably lasting 1-3 years? or more

Hi,
I find with these screens the contrast setting has to be correct and it varies with temperature which is a real pain...
I have been very impressed with the small/cheap oLed displays although I understand oLeds can fade over time.

The small OLEDs would likely be fine when fitted in a project.

But I have had a number of them fail when they are used bare bones, left lying on the bench etc ......

Firstly, the question is how/why 3 consecutive LCD's apparently went dead on you. I'd look really closely to verify if you haven't mistakenly killed them in your circuit.

Other than that: a really reliable display is...an old-fashioned 16x2 or so. That technology is just hard to beat in many ways.

You are aware that the 5110 is a 3.3V device? Wiring diagram would be useful.

It could be a problem with static discharge when handling the screens?
but I agree that using 5V on a 3.3V device is also a good possibility.

I wired the 5110 directly on the 3v arduino pin, one thing I noticed is, while switching screens, my arduino is on, and my hands are a "LITTLE" its like 1/10 scale little sweaty this was on 3 screens. Im now using a screen similar to 16x2LCD looks great and it seems reliable, I really want a good screen so it can last on a work environment.

I will read up on that thanks! I'm new to arduino and have 0 knowledge on static discharge

Thank you! I bought a 20x4 screen it looks great, better than the 5110 and cheaper only $5. :grinning:

Thats how I work on coding and debugging whats wrong its a shame they die quickly without any case...

And the other pins? SparkFun has a tutorial with wiring advice: Graphic LCD Hookup Guide - SparkFun Learn

Thank you! I'll try the guide, looks like I have a lot of testing to do, I haven't done any of the things mentioned in this guide, i just followed the youtube diy videos and it doesn't have any of these. :grinning:
