Board selection goes back to "No board selected"

I just moved to IDE 2.2.1 from 1.8.13. Everything seems okay, except that when I open a new sketch (am running thru the examples, obviously has been a while), I always get asked to select the Board. I do not remember that happening in the old version.

I went thru the forum and found a post from March 2021 titled: "Board selection goes back to "No board selected" when opening a new sketch", which is my issue. The reply from 'pert' says "I'm hoping it will be resolved in an upcoming release.". So is this just not fixed yet ? Or did I miss a step in setup ?
Thanks
Jack
BTW, I do like some of the newer features, especially the syntax popup

Putting my vote in for "would be nice to be fixed" because I experience the same as you with 2.2.1 (dropping the board and port every new sketch)

It must be your installation  I do not have that problem or only very occasionally.

Which operating system? I'm using Windows 10.

What might solve the issue is to save a sketch in case you have never done that yet on this new installation.

  1. Open a new empty sketch.
  2. Select the board.
  3. Save the sketch.
  4. Close the IDE.
  5. Open the IDE; it should open the latest sketch and the board should be selected in the dropdown.
  6. Open an existing example; it should show that last board in the dropdown.
