I recently damaged the micro USB connector on my Arduino ATmega 32U4. It is loaded with a program that interacts with the PC to use potentiometers and switches for a joystick steering wheel. Since the Arduino must always be connected via USB to the PC, is there any way to still use it without having to buy a new board?
P.S. I don't have the equipment to solder a new connector to the damaged one.F
It's not that complex, it is possible that broken Micro USB Type B may not work properly so just buy new Micro USB Type B connector and make connection accordingly.
May this photos can help you.
If you aren't comfortable with soldering, I'd +1 @LarryD 's advice and buy some new goodies.
If you muck up the soldering job (even though it's a fairly easy one) the connection will get very hot (ask me how I know that) and then you'll have problems there, too.
Come to think of it, do both. Buy a new board because Arduinos are awesome AND attempt the repair.
While you need a soldering iron in this hobby, replacing a USB socket is usually not an easy task. Most of the time you need a hotplate, a rework station, solder paste and a good dose of experience for this.
