Build your own cell phone ?

I am sick of cell companies pushing there several hundred dollar flimsily cell phones on me. mine had a small crack in the class and some water got into display ruining it. I want to build my own and it would have two C connectors to charge its separate batteries twice as fast. I want it to be locatable with gps. I want it to be blue tooth searchable. I want it to be a bit tough.

Lastly would it be cool if it had a 2 meter model ham radio? is that legal? I need to renew my ham radio license. of course, it would have wifi so it can do wifi calling say, to my home pbx

Have you already carried out an internet search?

I get about 2,200,000 results.

It’s a neat project, now you need to present a structured and well defined document with requirements and detailed list of specifications, and budget estimate.

Take the info sheet for an existing top end phone that you like, and continue from there.

This isn’t going to be cheap or fast, but it could easily be a winner.

Remember it has to be compliant with regulations, and safe etc.

What your budget for the project ?

Have you tried the Nokia GSM 3000 (USD90) or Nokia GSM 200 (USD50)? Pay for minutes only.

Or a SatPhone? USD900.

How are you gonna fit that into a reasonably small space? Or is that not a requirement?

If you want it to work on the mobile phone network you will need to get it type approved and then a provider who would let you use their system.

I have to agree about smart phones, a lot of money to have in your back pocket and if it stuffs up it takes a lot of the paper stuff from your back pocket to repair it.

I have a SIMPLE cheap smarty phone, $68 Australian, voice, TEXT, Camera, Viop, Facebook, GMAIL and Google.
Although the last three I'm lucky to use once a week.
I don't need a full blown video editor and xbox or PS plus personal secretary.
I may be 67 but I can still do it all on my own.

As for 2m amateur radio.
Look at this.

An impossible project I would say .
How are going to get any apps working ? Display ? Connecting to a network ? Getting an IMEI ?
Writing the code ….

Cool project, bro.

Are you intending to purchase a license for some type of real time operating system for your phone, or write your own?
