Bulk correction of broken links in posts

There seems to be an exercise now running to identify broken links and, if possible, substitute a replacement link from web.archive.org. I've received a few edit notifications regarding old posts which have been updated because of this. I guess this is done with script (or even AI) support. I'm curious to know how this works in practice. If the web site returns a 404 error then the case is clear. If, however, the domain still exists and there is a redirect to a more general search or profile page it must be quite difficult to identify that the link is no longer relevant. The edit notifications come in @pert 's name.

Of course I find this good because often, when I receive a notification that a link I have supplied has been accessed 50 (or even 300) times, I find the link is dead and have to attempt to find a substitute.

No, it is manual.

I received a report from a user. The "Henry's Bench" blog was a popular resource for the Arduino community. The registration lapsed on the capnfatz.com domain that blog was hosted on and another entity took it over in order to drive traffic to various unrelated sites, some of which are sketchy.

Thankfully the blog was well archived on the wonderful Internet Archive Wayback Machine and so I was able to adjust the links so that they once more point to the content the forum users intended.
