CAB-10646 6 core ribbon cable

I have some CAB-10646 ribbon cable and crimping connectors. I was wanting to use it for connections between PCBs to carry; 5V 2amp, GND, and other connections e.g. CLK etc. I don’t know what the mm2 rating for this cable is. The length of the cables will be quite short i.e. 5-6cm and possibly up to 20cm.

Would this cable be OK for this use?

The current capability of wire is based on the wire size and the type of insulation. Neither are given in the documentation I have found. What have you found?

So, I guess you will just have to test it.

Paul

I found that wires of 0.75mm2 would be sufficient for the power being sent through the wire, but I don't know what the value of the CAB-10646 wires are!

I will test it later on and see...

Well measure the diameter of the wire's conductor then!

area = diameter^2*pi/4

volume resistivity of copper is about 1.7e-8 ohm-m

resistance / unit length = resistivity / area

Use S.I. throughout.

Or just find a table of wire properties which has a diameter column and look it up, there are dozens out there...
