i have a Ethernet W5100 but When I installed it on the UNO IC(W5100) becomes very hot Does this normal? The program does not run anything but all LEDs are switched on.
Please advice..
Inspect the shield for solder bridges. If you smelled smoke, order a new shield and see if your arduino (without the W5100) will run the blink sketch example.
There is a 3.3V regulator on the shield. See if there is 3.3V coming out...do this very quickly after you have done the other things above. If there are no solder bridges, the regulator may be shorted and your shield is probably toast, but you could change the regulator and try it again.

Define "hot".
The W5100 gets fairly warm after some time. I would guess 20C over ambient.
Mine has four visable solder bridges, and works perfecly fine.
They should be there. Look at the eagle schematic files. Lots of pins are connected together.
I had problems with my ethernet shield not working all the time.
It was the ICSP connector. The pins were to short and did not go deep enough in the connector.
You can fix it by cutting off 1-2mm from all the other pins, or extending the ICSP connector.
Make sure to leave enough space between the ethernet and USB connectors.
