Can Ipads be used with arduino

Hi,

I hope this is the correct forum for this. I did have a look through the FAQ's but couldn't see anything.

I am a science lab tech in a senior high school and am trying to get an Arduino group started. I am trying to put a budget and plan together at the moment to put to the faculty head. Our science faculty has Ipads available for student use so we would have to obtain lightning to usb adapters but I am unsure if this is will work.

Would the Ipad be happy to supply enough currant to the board?

Would there be any problems running the on-line IDE?

Any help or suggestions regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Colin

I wasn't aware that it was possible to use the Arduino Web Editor plugin with an iPad. Have you tried installing it on an iPad yet?

It makes me really sad that kids have so little access to real computers these days. I guess I was lucky enough to grow up in a golden time when personal computers were just becoming affordable enough that most households had one but before they were replaced by these mobile devices that are fine for entertainment or accomplishing simple tasks on the go but pretty much worthless for getting real work done.

I remember the first Radio Shack TRS-80.
I never used one but our high school chemistry teacher did.
He was fixated by it.

As for iPads, isn't a Samsung or Lenovo or Acer tablet at 1/3-1/2 the price good enough?
I don't understand the waste of taxpayer money on overpriced Apple products.
