Arduino IDE 2.x is now available packaged as an AppImage. As the one with auto update support, this is the preferred format for Linux hosts, though the ZIP packaged option is also still available for Linux.
The AppImage can be started from the file manager.
The situation is the same with the ZIP package though:
So the answer is no. A simple shell wrapper has still not been added to the linux release.

The answer is "yes". You can now start it from a Linux file manager without any need to create your own wrapper script.
I am referring to the zip file image not the appimage.
I understand the focus may be on the appimage but there are reasons to want to use the zip file image and since it is still being provided, why is the zip image still broken when there are simple solutions available to fix it.
In fact, the discussion about it being broken is taking up more resources than the fix.
So the answer is there is still no way to start the IDE from a unix file manager with files as extracted from from the zip file image.
In fact, not only can a user not start the IDE from the file manager, there still isn't a file named "arduino" in root directory of the zip file image.
The file arduino-ide is executable but is a share object and is will not start up when clicked on in the file manager.
There are some trivial solutions to fix this and have been offered in github issues.
The file can be linked differently or
a simple wrapper script can make the existing arduino-ide file work.
I reported this issue and a solution back in March of 2021 well over a year ago back when it was still in beta.
So I'll repeat my comment that I made in the github issue over 6 months ago.
What is the hold up on getting this resolved?
How can this be considered a release candidate when the user can't even bring up the IDE with the files as they are being provided?
