Cannot open com ports

Hi All.

Just purchased a refurbished DELL precision desktop pc, running windows 11 Pro. My problem is this, it has given me several error reasons when running Arduino IDE. when trying to load sketches, like Uploading failed exit status 1, cannot open relevant com port. Everything works on my Laptop running windows 11, no problems at all.

The fact that all works on my Laptop, makes me feel it's the computer? though the vendor who sold it to me states everything checked out at his base. Things improved a little when i entered into the DEVICE MANAGER, opened USB controllers, all the controllers had a box ticked called "Let this pc turn of this device for power management"

Can anybody help Please.

Regards

Ray

Show your code in a code block after doig an Auto Format. Try the example blonk sketch first maybe, show us the verfbose upload log in a code block. exit status is NOT the error, that's just to tell the next step to do something.

Tried your suggestion = "Programmer not Responding" using Blink sketch.

I am a Mac driver, but I often see Windows Device Manager issues similar to that. Try thge double tap first then listen for the ding and look at Device Manager and compare to what you see in the Board selector dropdown or in the IDE bottom right.

Connect the Arduino UNO R3 to your PC. Check that the connection sound is heard, then open Device Manager and verify that a COM port has been assigned to the board. Once this step is completed, open the IDE, create a sketch to blink the onboard LED, and upload it.

which specific development boards are you having problems with? give links?

I found under Win11 some dev boards require drivers to be explicitly downloaded
