Cannot upload sketch on Arduino Giga R1 WiFi

Hi all,
i have a new Arduino Giga R1 WiFi.
I work on a Windows10-PC with 32GB memory
and i use arduino IDE Version 2.2.1.

and thats my problem:

  • i connected the Arduino Giga on the USB

    the PC says 'device installed'

  • i started the Arduino IDE to install the bord 'Arduino Mbed OS Giga Boards'
    version 4.08 with the board-manager

  • i closed the arduino IDE

  • i restart my PC

  • i connected the Arduino Giga R1 WiFi - board on USB again

on Arduino board: the LED near the USB-jack shine yellow
on Arduino board: the LED near the BOOT0-button changes (R/G/B) repeating

  • i loaded the blink-sketch (blink.ino from examples basic)

  • i have choosed the board:
tools > board > Arduino Mbed OS Giga Boards > Arduino Giga R1

  • i have choosed the port:
    tools > port > COM12 (Arduino Giga R1)

  • i started the upload (butten (>) )

    compilation started and ends successful:
Der Sketch verwendet 110064 Bytes (5%) des Programmspeicherplatzes.
    Das Maximum sind 1966080 Bytes.
Globale Variablen verwenden 47520 Bytes (9%) des dynamischen Speichers,
476112 Bytes für lokale Variablen verbleiben. Das Maximum sind 523624 Bytes.

    upload starts:
    dfu-util 0.10-dev

A valid DFU suffix will be required in a future dfu-util release
No DFU capable USB device available
Fehlgeschlagenes Hochladen: Hochladefehler: exit status 74

    !!!!
the LED (/G/B) changes to green (blinking every half second)
the Giga Board looses Port COM12 connection
the Giga Board connected to Port COM13

thats all.
now my Questions: Is that behavior an Error on the board?
and What can i do now ?

i hope, someone can help solving my problem, thanks

Hello manne_ef,

I have the exact same problem as you !

I also tried :

  • Connecting the Arduino GIGA R1 to another PC. I have the same "exit status 74" problem.
  • Using another board (Arduino UNO R3) on my computer. It works and I can upload without problem ! So the problem does come from the GIGA R1 board.
  • Following the "double click" advice found here. No change (though it seems that the Arduino board goes automatically into Reset mode when the upload fails).
  • To upload in both Reset mode or "normal" mode seems to change the error message :

In Reset mode :

Warning: Invalid DFU suffix signature
A valid DFU suffix will be required in a future dfu-util release
**Cannot open DFU device 2341:0366 found on devnum 26 (LIBUSB_ERROR_NOT_FOUND)**
No DFU capable USB device available
Failed uploading: uploading error: exit status 74

I also found this page, which says

dfu-util: Cannot open DFU device {vid}:{pid} found on devnum {n} (LIBUSB_ERROR_ACCESS). On Linux, this error can be caused by missing udev rules.

But we are on Windows 10, so I don't know how to proceed with that.

Finally, when the board is in Reset mode (green led blinking), in the device manager, I have the following peripheral issue @ Internal Flash 2 MB :

screenshot

Also, it's worth noting that I can't update the firmware either (tools > Firmware Updater > Selec Board > No supported board connected)

I might try to run the suggested solution for Linux (with MobaXterm) but I don't have many hopes.

If anyone has a suggestion, that would be very welcome

Many thanks in advance for the community's help

This may or may not help. We had the same error message on a Win 10 machine using IDE2x.
We had booted the machine and loaded the IDE and plugged in the Giga board. All seemed to be normal. We could get the board info but it would not load Blink. We spent hours. There was a lot of info for Linux but not for Windows. If you followed the sequence on trying to load there appeared to be a change of COM port during the process.
In the end we unplugged the board and deleted the Giga personality.
We plugged the Giga back in and it was found and loaded again but this time it asked whether we wanted to also load some USB drivers (three I think). We OK'd this.
We tried to upload Blink and it worked but not without some minor error message about needing a DFU upgrade in the future. (see image below)
Changing the timing in Blink reflected in any uploads we made from then on so things are looking good.
The essence of this is that unless you have those USB updates loaded you will have problem.
Note that if you look in Device Manager at COM ports you do not get Giga in the description (unlike a Mega), just simply 'USB Serial Device (Com x).

This is how I solved it. Before you upload the sketch you need to press the reset button twice. It will turn green and begins flashing.

You can then upload new code to it.

Pressing reset button twice also pauses the program that is in it, if you press reset ones again it will go back to the program you had in it.

I found the information at LINK or search for arduino MEGA R1 cheat sheet. Then scroll to Board package > Mbed OS.

Think you bobski, you confirm this good method for resolv fdu error on uploading shetch to the GIGA R1.
