Cheaper than what?
More accurate than what?
Numbers are much more useful than relative terms. Like maximum price of XX USD/GBP/EUR and perhaps accuracy of +/-5mm over range of 0-10 m.
Steve
The cheaper, the less accurate.
Don't get a more accurate one than you really need so you can keep the cost down.
If 1-2 cm is accurate enough, get a bunch of HC-SR04 sensors. You can get them for well under 1 USD a piece.
If you need sub-mm accuracy, you'll have to shell out a lot more for a laser range finder.
And proximity to what? And do you just want a judge single distance precisely, or to measure distance over
a range?
What do you need to actually do?
im just gonna use it as a signal to control my stepper motor. when it detects something close to it (close means super near to the sensor as if like you exactly touch the sensor), the stepping motor will on.
Sounds like you need a limit switch. Cheap, reliable, and accurate, triggering when an object is a few millimeters away.
ow thanks i think thats really what i need. but im doubt, it is possible for the limit switch to hit by like a clay form? if the object is like a clay form would it hitted the limit switch? , or it is to hard to press so maybe the clay-form-object will just deformed not hit the switch?

Try it and let us know.
