Yep, that's 180 degrees rotated.
Did you buy it on Ebay ?

Almost unbelievably I re-orientated the chip correctly and it now seems to be working.

Got an hot air station, or how did you desolder the chip?
Hot air gun, solder wick & flux

Contact the ebay seller and get a partial rebate for all your effort, it was his mistook.
