Dear,
I'm using a ESP32 doit esp32 devkit v1 for my project.
To add some range to the WiFi signal I want an external antenna. Because the board doesn't have any IPEX/SMA connectors, it means I have to "edit" the board.
On the internet I've found a video of how to do it: Solder a SMA socket to an ESP32 for a external antenna - YouTube
So I'm planning to add a SMA-socket to add an external antenna.
The project I'm working with has some communication between 2 ESP32's using a Websocket server and client. Both the ESP32's are using the Espressif patented LR mode. Does anybody know the frequency that the ESP32 is using when the LR mode is on?
After the SMA-socket is on the boards, I have to use a extend cable to extend the distance between the ESP32 and the antenna.
The antenna I want to use is this one.
Does anybody experience with this kind of work or does anybody have a better idea?
Share your thoughts!
Kind regards,
Stijn Verhelst
Does anyone think that this setup may have some complications, or will it be working just fine?
Every reply is appreciated!
A cursory Google search quickly shows the MODULATION method is changed. The frequency range for WIFI stays the same.
A quarter wave straight piece of wire soldered in place of the built-in antenna seems to be working better than what you are suggesting. If that doesn't work, then there are many other antennas to try.

Because the distance between where the antenna need to go, and the ESP32, this method may be not a good solution for me (because the wire need to have a exact lenght).
Which antenna are you advising me to use for this project? Maybe some specs about the dB. I'm know the ESP32's LR mode uses 4dB, so maybe the antenna need to also have such specs?

Google for "wifi antenna" and look at the images. Pick one that fits your situation.

But will the antenna + extend-cable mentioned in post #1 work fine with the ESP32?

My friend, that is entirely up to you.
