Com 10 pin cable

Hi Every one.
I have quite old computer and it has Com connection on the motherboard and I have a long usbasp cable (10 pin) that fits in to, can i use that connection like my usbasp connection?
Thanks.

What computer, what motherboard?

I doubt it. That com header on your motherboard is likely for an RS-232 serial port.

Yes, I guess too, rs232 Com connection.

Post a clear photo of the connector…

Probably yes, but only 9 of the pins are actually used.for a typical D9 RS232 connection…

What about pin out like usbasp?

Just because the connector is the same doesn't mean that the signals are.

Great Explanation, so it won't work like that. Thanks.

You can use this to convert it to TTL levels if you can find the adapter cable in post #5.

And if you try to use an onboard serial connector be aware that there were (at least) 2 different pinouts that were dependent on how the 9 pin connector at the other end was laid out. In one the pins were connected sequentially (hand soldered), in the other they were alternating (IDC crimp).

One more question If I'm wrong please correct me. Could we use Com Port1 like Ftdi232 https://www.electroinvention.co.in/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/ftdi-connection-with-arduino-1.png There is all we need. Rxd Txd DRT Cts Ground maybe we need only Vcc 5V external?

Ok

This works just like that.Only there is step down boost converter VCC.
