Com port issues

I am having com port problems stopping me uploading sketches. 2 days ago I had 2 uno’s , one was on Com 3 and one on Com4. Today however the IDE only has Com 7 available. At the bottom of the window it says “Arduino uno on Com 7” however if I try to upload a sketch if returns error “ can’t open device- com 7 not found. I have trued unistalling and re installing. Tried in Eindows device manager. All still stuck on Com 7.

All help appreciated

Thank you’re

As your topic does not relate directly to the installation or operation of the IDE it has been moved to a more relevant category of the forum

Does COM7 disappear from Windows device manager when you disconnect the boards? If not, it's not your Arduino.

Anything with yellow triangles in Windows device manager?

How is it identified in Windows device manager (VID and PID)

What is the serial-to-USB converter on your board? It's the IC closest to the USB port (photo borrowed from another topic).

This one presumably has a CH340 but has no print on it and hence is a fake or reject. Official boards have an 16U2, clones usually a CH340.

Remove all USB Arduinos.
Restart IDE.
Select TOOLS >> BOARDS >> ARDUINO AVR BOARDS >> (your board)
Select TOOLS >> PORT >> (arduino port)

Upload a screenshot of what you see. Here is a screenshot of my Nano on COM3.
