Connecting computer to Ultimate GPS Featherwing

I was wondering if this GPS can be used to track High Altitude Balloons? Would I be able to find out its realtime location on the computer or can this GPS only transmit data while it is connected to the computer with a wire? Here is a link to the GPS I have in mind:

Thanks!

The only output from the GPS is a wired 9600 baud serial signal via its UART. The GPS does not do wireless transmission of its data. You will need a microcontroller to receive the data form the GPS and send via a radio transmitter in your balloon. Balloon projects come up here once in a while. A search of the forum might yield information to help you.

There are several methods of using radio transmitters to get the GPS data back from a high altitude balloon to a PC or on-line map display.

But first you need a GPS that works at high altitude, more than 18km, not all GPSs do.

Not sure, but I dont think that GPS supports high altitude mode.
