Connecting mouse to pc through Leonardo + usb host shield

I've got the Arduino plugged into my pc, and the mouse plugged into the usb host shield, but the lights on the mouse dont turn on and the mouse seemingly has no connection at all.

the host shield is soldered correctly and I'm using the USBHIDBootMouse example code.

I am using a razer naga trinity as the mouse, will I need to just get a cheap unbranded mouse to use this? or is there a fix?

If you have a multimeter, check for 3.3V and 5V on the UHS. Try running the board_qc example. It includes a SPI test.
