I have started another thread to do with a PMS5003 but this is not the same query (but is a possible solution to that thread's problem).. I'll try my best to keep this brief.
I am trying to build a fully automated dust collection/extraction system for my workshop. How mine is to differ (hopefully) is that it also brings on the fan to 'scrub' the air when the PM2.5 becomes too high (when the fan is not otherwise being used) & switches off when the air is clear.
I am really struggling to run & interface my PM Sensor to a screen (with an UNO R3, but that's for that other thread) .. However, I can buy one that already is !...
So, my question is; can someone please take a look at this this gadget & see if it MAY be possible to use it with an UNO or a Mega ? There is a data port (?..USB ?) ..COULD it be possible to connect that to my pc & see what program/code it's running & therefore modify it to suit my needs ?or is this wishful thinking ?
If you are having difficulty interfacing a screen with a Uno then I can say with some certainty that interfacing this gadget with an Arduino will be more difficult and probably impossible
If you don't have much experience with electronics, there is no point in buying something without a manual describing the electrical interface and data transmission protocol.
PM sensors are complicated devices. I recommend this one, which has been extensively tested, validated and can be interfaced with any Arduino.
Yep.. that would make perfect sense & I wouldn't be asking my question if it wasn't for the fact that Adafruit (& others) also give/s code & explanation for these PMS5003's that loads of people are having problems with. So how can I be sure this one isn't the same ?
Is this newer model actually useable ?
Do you have experience with this one ?
I would dearly like to move onto the next part of my project.
If you have the Adafruit module, then perhaps. Please follow the posting instructions in the "How to get the best out of this forum" post, linked at the head of every forum category.
Thanks jremington. That does seem to be a better option, although it's smaller. I'm just concerned that I'll end up in the same quagmire but with more components to my name.
I still cannot fathom how so many projects online seem to work just fine, but, like me, so many people are struggling to get their pms5003 to work for them.. bonkers.
(I will post on my other thread about Pms5005 / Pmsa003I. I would be interested in what setup you've got.)
