Creating a Device to convert a Tachometer Signal in a Car

Hello

I am hoping someone can help.

First off I am brand new to coding and therefore don't know much.

My situation is I need to create a device that can convert a Tachometer Signal from an Engine ECU. The ECU puts out a signal that corresponds to a 4 Cylinder Engine (will attach a scope so you can see what the signal is.)
I need to convert that to a 6 cylinder signal.

I would also like the device to be able to convert 6 Cylinder to 4 Cylinder as well.

I initially spoke to someone and was told to get a ATtiny88 to carry out this project so at the moment that is what I have but if it is not suitable then I will get whatever is required.

I am happy with electronics and can get my hands on whatever is required to make it work.

The only ideal is that ideally the device needs to be small like the size of a Nano or ATTiny88

If anyone thinks they can help please message me to discuss cost etc.

Many thanks

Edit I actually scoped out the two signals that I am looking for.

A (Blue) is the 4 Cylinder Signal
B (Red) is the 6 Cylinder Signal

Sorry about the earlier picture that was incorrect.

Will this be used to only feed a tachometer or will it be used for some kind of engine timing, spark, fuel injectors etc?

It is purely just to feed a tachometer.

How familiar are you with automotive electronics and the associated transients etc? What happens if that ECU output is destroyed?

I'm knowledgeable enough to cause trouble.
My speciality is building wiring harnesses. So I understand the requirements of that.
I leave this stuff up to trained professionals.

That is why I am asking here for paid help to get a problem resolved that is way out of my comfort zone.

You have told us about input..ECU signal, but what about output? What does the tachometer need such PWM signal, analog voltage, I2C etc. The best approach would be a link to the tachometer datasheet. This will make costing possible.

Also how will the switch between 4 and 6 cylinder be made? Will it be a button/hardware or a variable in code?
