I was thinking of making a datalogger with a arduino. I want to log a LVDT sensor and a temperaturetransmitter.
This will sitt on a bridge outside for a couple of months.
I was wondering if the arduino would work in a industrial enviroment, is the arduino reliable enough.
I think i know how to do it in practice, but i just have to figure out how to save energy because of the long time it will be in operation.
And in general how to use batteries and which batteries to use.
The main issue I was hoping to get an answer about is if the arduino is reliable enough to use twoards a costumer.
If anyone is curious about details about project, im glad to elaborate.
If anyone has any tips, I'm open for suggestions
The arduino will be fine if properly protected. That enclosure looks like something that you can find at Polycase.
I'd be more concerned about the LVDT. They're not exactly power-sipping unless you can control the excitation and only turn it on periodically. What are you using to interface arduino to an LVDT?
Ok thank you. That looks like a great site aswell.
Yes the LVDT will for sure draw some power. Im hoping to figure out a way to turn it off.
The frequency of my measurements wont be high. Just over a long timeperiod.
My initial idea was to just interface it directly since the LVDT runs on 5v aswell. But i might either need a relay for the 5v to the LVDT, or i was hoping there was a sleepmode or something for the aruduino which would turn of the LVDT aswell.'
Im thinking of using an arduino uno with a datalogger shield ontop with a RTC battery.
Then because of lack of sun, just use batteries, and maybe change them when needed
Im open for better solutions as i have not spent to much time planning this
