Did I fry my fingerprint sensor

Hi guys,

I have this fingerprint sensor, not sure which model - by the looks of it I think it could be AS608. It was working alright for a day and a half (but it had a previous owner before me) and then it started bugging out. I know the code and the wiring is alright because it worked perfectly so far. Now, whenever I run one of the examples from the Adafruit library, I just get the message "Did not find fingerprint sensor" - mind you I haven't changed my wiring and have configured the examples according to my wiring.

I can get the sensor to work alright for some random amount of time by just doing random stuff, unplugging and plugging a wire, restarting my pc, just the most random stuff... Well I have also now noticed that I have been supplying it with 5V when in fact it most likely needs 3.3V ..... did I accidentally fry it? The LED is still on but it is just not getting recognised by the code.

This is my first bigger arduino project so go easy on me please and thank you...

  • Show us your schematic.

  • Show us images of your actual wiring.

Edit:
Honestly now I am pretty confused, messed about with it some more and some stuff that didn't work before are now working (I'm sure they'll quit any second now) - concerning the power pin

I have been using the emptyDatabase example and the only things I've changed is setting the SoftwareSerial pins to 10 and 11, and also changing the Serial baudrate to 115200 cause that's what I've been using for my project.

I think it shut down because the voltage was too high

Do you think I might have damaged it? I've now tried switching to 3.3v which sometimes work, but sometimes doesn't... I'll take a better look at it in the morning I guess, it's currently 3am here!

  • If you put 5V on the 3V3 pin you would have damaged the module.

You might have damaged it

Yes, I did put 5v on the 3.3v pin for quite some time there. We will see how it turns out.
Thanks for the replies!

No prob!
