What has a torque wrench go to do with hammering nails into a board ?

again. You don't need the distance between points. You just need the correct order.

This is a simple prototype.
It checks if the buttons gets pressed in the specific order.

When you press the wrong button, the game restarts.

Regarding hardware:
I would use slider potentiometers. A nail could slide the potentiometer down to zero. If a slider doesn't reach near zero within some millisenconds you can take that as invalid try.

looks like this has nothing to do with torque.

since you said people, this sounds like a manual system and that you are monitoring position as well as if the hammer is triggered? is this correct? how are you monitoring position?

if this is true, wouldn't you verify that that

  • the hammer is triggered within the 4 target coordinate and
  • only once for each target?

This is a conceptually flawed approach to checking whether two points are the same (unless you have prior guarantees that no two points are equidistant from the "home position").
