DMX slave on a LilyPad

I have been working on a costuming project that incorporates a number of LEDs and EL-wire controlled from an Arduino LilyPad. I am attempting to add an element of DMX control from a lighting console. I have purchased a conceptinetics DMX shield and downloaded the appropriate libraries for it from:

Using the example slave code and an Uno I was able to set up a slave device and get full response from the console signal. When I tried to transfer the set up to the Lilypad I was not seeing any response to the DMX signal. Right now I have wires jumping from the LilyPad to the shield on the 5V, ground, and RX pins. Is there a connection that I'm missing? Or do you think there is something in the code that needs to be changed?

I guess I'm also wondering if the LilyPad has the serial capabilities to host the DMX shield. Based on my understanding of the specs it should be able to, but perhaps I am overlooking something. Does anyone have any thoughts on the compatibility issue?

Thanks for the help!

I agree it should too. Just got finished a big uno DMX project with custom sheild- send and receive and multiplex.

Things to check. Usually the shield needs a send/receive high/low set on pins 2 and/or 3. I don't think the lily's pins are in the same order so you might have that pin connected one too far around.

Which lily is it? It shouldn't matter but it might.

It might also be a library compatibility issue. I had to use two different ones to both send and receive. Lets have a look at the code and I'll download the libraries and have a go. I think if anything this is going to be this issue.

One last thing. I couldn't see what chip was on there. The Max485s we use here (we build our own shields) are a little flaky and for some reason when you change shields they can take a few restarts before they settle down and work again.
That's a pretty big shield for a wearable. The SMD ones we made were about the size of postage stamp. They got lost sitting on the UNOs
