Ok, not wanting to start another war, but... I looked at my downloads from my ISP's site (TalkTalk are nice and tell you) I'm on an unlimited plan, but would you say that 60 GB is excessive? If anyone else can tell how much data they get through I would be intrigued to know.
I used to top 100GB/month on a 2mbps line. Oddly enough, the faster line I've got the less I'm bothered about how much I can download.
I've got a 50mbps unmetered connection so I've no idea how much I download a month but I dare say it's a tad over 65GB.]
edit: Sorry to be a pedant, bld, but small b is for bit, big B is for byte. Gets confusing otherwise - especially since transfer speeds are measured in bits and download amounts bytes.

Unfortunately I only have satellite out in the country. I get a 250mb per day download, after that speed is decreased.... Sucks and I told them the service was junk and making a killing off people (80 bucks a month). I miss living in town (kinda)
im sorry graymalkin, talk talk suck ass, im with Tiscali which even though have been bought out by talk talk i refuse to acknowledge the fact, ever since talk talk took over i've had nothing but grief with slow internet and even no internet not to mention billing, i don't know how much i download a day, never had cause to worry about it, i think the only people that should are the ones downloading stuff they shouldn't i'll say no more but if the totals into gigabytes per day thats not web surfing.
uhoh now im gonna get shouted at

True, I got a stream from di.fm running 24/7 (sometimes more depending on where I am), and also watch misc. video streams And then downloads besides that.
A internet connection isn't just for surfing any longer, it is on its way to be everything
Well, that's ok then. I was worried I'd get a letter from my ISP. :S
You're with a rubbish ISP, so what the rest of us get up to doesn't really matter.
You'll want to check your original contract. As far as I know, when you sign up for something that's what you get irrespective of who now owns the company. You'll either have a limit or 'fair use' which, unless defined, means anything they feel like.
For example, I signed up for freedom2surf because they said it was "unlimited and uncapped". I asked what that meant and was told I would get unmetered bandwidth at the maximum speed the line would provide. I knew the line speed was about to go up so stuck with them. By the time ADSLMax came in, f2s had been sold (to pipex, I think) and I was told that if I wanted 8mbps I would have to change my package - which would be more expensive and have a download cap.
Fortunately I'd asked what 'unlimited uncapped' meant by email, so forwarded it to them and told them I wanted my 8mbps NOW. I got a phonecall saying "since you're a valued and loyal customer we're going to give you it, on the condition that you don't go online and tell everyone". They also said if I went over 100GB in a month I'd get a phone call to talk about malware problems. I went over every month and never got a call.

How long ago was that?
Here we get 10 Mbit down thrown after us, and around 1 Mbit upload. And that over the normal phone line, they are still working on the fiber all around the country, and when they finish it here (hopefully within a few weeks), I should get 50/50 Mbit with full dublex, no limits. Can't wait
Move to Sweden, they got 100/100 mbit fairly cheap.
I'd love to be able to move like that. Only speaking English might be a bit of a problem, but I would like a job where I can work from wherever I want as long as it has a decent net connection.
I understand the former East Germany is really cheap, but I've no idea how good their broadband is.
i'm with BT in uk supposed to get 8mb but only get 1.5/2 on a good day!
That's the trouble with ADSL - it's heavily dependent on the line from you to the exchange. I'm with virginmedia and I can expect full line speed most of the time.
You can find out how far from your exchange you are - the samknows website should tell you, and will probably tell you what kind of speed you should expect.
everyone seems to talk mpbs... lol i got 256kbps on this one and 512kbps @ work....65gigs is more than what i download in 2 years
Decent broadband coverage in the UK is quite sporadic. I chose to live in areas with cable (firbe) connections so I can get 50mbps, but a lot of places outside of cities get speeds similar to you.
The trouble is, rural areas mean fewer people connected to an exchange, and fewer still close enough to get a decent broadband conncetion through it so it's not worth putting high speed equipment in. Certainly no third party company will put equipment in and offer a rival to BT like you get in cities.
