Hello Boys, Girls and those in the empty seats. I spent many hours on this problem and finally fixed it.
First I had a working ESP-32 with Weather sensors, RTC, LCD display and a large LED display all working fine. One week later it quit. Found the 3.3 supply from the ESP to be 1.3 volts! I pulled all sensors with no change. Then found the 5.0 volts from the USB to be almost missing. Changed cable, no change. Replace with new ESP32 Wroom-32 STILL BAD!
Finally tracing power path on the ESP and found open trace on the ESP itself! Both the one in circuit and the BRAND new one had the same problem.
I added an jumper wire from the input 5v diode to the input of the 3.3 v regulator. All is now well. I included a picture of the jumper I added. I hope you can see the connections well enough to see the proper connection.
Wow - that doesn't happen often these days. PCB manufacturing technology overall is pretty reliable. Do you happen to have (or can you make) a clear, close-up photograph of that section of the PCB? Or is there no visual indication of a trace defect at all?
