My latest board ,A Duinotech esp32, Is giving me nightmares.
1.i plug it in to a min usb and only 1 red light comes on and stays constant. No blinking or flickering.
2. Iv tried 5 different mini usb cords, With above result.
3. The esp32 shows up in the windows devices as unknown device.
4. Banged my head against the wall a few times.
5. My other boards show up as soon as there plugged in & shows what port its connected to, But they Don't use a mini usb.
6. When the IDE is open & the esp32 plugged in the IDE cant find it to select a port.
7. When i try connecting the esp32 to the web editor, i get this message,
And still get the same result, Only has 1 red light come on that stays constant , Board only shows up in windows devices, Computer makes the connected sound.
Wont show up using the IDE or web editor even with the Download in place.
So install the necessary device driver in Windows. By the looks of it this board comes with a CP2102 UART bridge, for which you'll find the necessary Windows driver here: CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers - Silicon Labs
Trying to get Arduino IDE to connect with a device that's not yet correctly enumerated by Windows is futile and explains the problems you had with further steps.
Kindly check if you have properly done the driver installation and board installation. If everything is alright but still not working, then I probably you got a faulty board. You'd better contact your supplier if there is any chance of refund or exchange.
Iv thrown the towl in
I gave up with the esp32 after learning that the drivers still need instaling And it seems as tho , rpiloverbd ,is correct, Its a faulty device So i took it back to the shop with respit in hand and they were fine about refunding me.
However tho, instead of geting another ESP32 that just done my head in, I decided to pay a little extra and Buy a Duinotech Yun Sheild.
To late sorry Larry, As i mentioned in my last post, "It was a Dud ESP32" and i took it back to the shop.
After that experience iv lost all patience with ESP32's & I'm staying away from them lil buggers.
(i sooo soo badly wanted to hit it with a big ass hammer)
And purchased a YUN Shield.
So on with the next chapter.
No, but I've seen how you navigate the technical problems you encounter and in my experience such an approach is not very reliable. It's a bit erratic and emotional, and those things don't go well with solving technical issues.
The fact that your board showed up fine after installing the device driver suggests that the USB-UART bridge at least worked. Hence, it's very likely that the rest of your new-out-of-the-box board also worked fine. FYI: I've bought dozens of microcontrollers for projects, and literally 0 were dead-on-arrival. With other semiconductors it's the same. Reliability of new electronics is very, very high. Even the 'cheap stuff from China'...
Are you a psychologist koraks.
Hears some more emotional and erratic ramblings, Just for you
Do you always analyze everyone and everything.
I'm not going to waste time and effort on that board that's NOT even listen in the ide and gave me problem after problem out of the box.
Yes i am new to Arduino boards, Yes i do have patience, Yes i like to get the task completed.
But when the task continually gives me problems , And having to rely on the forums for answers days or weeks apart just to fix something before the actual project can get off the ground, It doesn't seem so appealing anymore and the incentive i started with is almost gone.
So i move on to the next chapter and start again.
It didn't come across like that at least in this thread and the other one. I do appreciate the fact that this journey has been frustrating for you. Indeed, I recognize it; I also often stumble upon problems I don't quite understand at first. I have also learned getting angry with stuff or myself, or otherwise letting my frustration influence the troubleshooting process is not conducive to solving the problem and in fact tends to make it worse.
I'm sure you know all this, but it seems to be it's still relevant. And no, I'm not a psychologist. I don't think it takes one to recognize what's going on here.
I'm not sure that the Yun shield was your best choice - I don't recall the last time I saw anything related to Yun posted in the forums and it's a discontinued product. I suspect that the number of people here who can advise you on it will be very small (if you're lucky).
I only got the Yun shield because of the sketch in my other thread, Onity key card lock.
A member in that thread told me that sketch will only work on the boards he listed, And the yun shield was one of them.
Now im trying to make the Yun sheild work with a UNO. The next chapter .
I get all the way to the point of entering the i.p number in the browser, Box opens & enter password, box closes
New box opens to enter new Board name & new password ,nominate a wifi network, select security and enter password again.
And thats were i stoped because my internet conection is running from my smart
phone.
So should i select wifi or not
