ESP8266 and HC-SR04 on 5V?

I have an ultrasound HC-SR04 and I need to plug it into an ESP8266 (wemos d1 mini pro). Would it matter if I use 5V?

Doesn't matter to me.

Always use what the specification for the device calls for.

If you want to make a crispy critter out of it run it on 5V. The data sheet states "It runs from 5V or 3.3V. Logic levels are 3.3V for all ports". As far as the HC-SR04. the data sheet is clear it needs 5V. You need to use a level translater or a different micro.
