Fail at the first hurdle

Got my Arduino Q this PM. I had previously set up the permissions asked of me. When I open the Arduino App lab it can't find my connected Arduino Q.

I am using a Mac by the way.

Sometimes the Arduino shows a pulsing heart, but I have also seen it trace out the Arduino "infinity" trade mark like a snake.

Any one know what to try now?

I am using a Mac by the way.

(PC Windows 11) - Mine took a while to be found, but did eventually - However, that was just the start of my problems. It connected to WiFi (eventually) which is the very first step after connecting it, then wanted to an update and just fails - can’t get past that. Restarting the app, it now shows as a UNO-Q on Network as well as USB, but the first thing it asks me for is a Linux password - nothing works, so I’ve raised a ticket.
Currently, it’s a paperweight on my desk.

I also drive a Mac, so that's concerning. I do have Windows and Linux machines as wel,l but they also sound problematic.

Maybe in the future they could send out product to active forum members since they seem to trip on bugs before others.

How long is eventually? Just turned mine off after about an hour .

I had a similar issue.
On the Mac side, I saw that macOS was blocking the USB (dmesg). I changed to a very permissive reboot, and later I could see the USB connection.
Try to download the latest ArduinoAppLab. This may avoid some update issues https://downloads.arduino.cc/AppLab/Stable/ArduinoAppLab_0.1.26.dmg

Thanks for that suggestion.

Sadly no change getting the board to be able to be recognised.

Is the Q Plug and Pray?

It looks like they need to hand out boards to everyone who wants them.

Not that long - 20 minutes of trying, After the original issue trying to find the board I tried an older version of the app (0.1.23) I downloaded last week ahead of the delivery, and it saw it. Tried the newer (0.1.25) version again, and it then saw it.

That’s exactly what I get on USB - did you try the “Network” connection? I still couldn’t get past that anyway, but I’d be interested to know if yours is the same.

Network connection works once you’ve set the Linux admin username/password. But sadly you need to get through the usb setup first to set a password (step 3)

This is a video of the figure of eight / Arduino logo. This seems to appear when you change the port the UNO Q is plugged into on the USB hub of my iMac. Ig you leave it alone for a short time, like 3 minutes it will revert to the common pulsing heart. I don't know if this means anything though. I have tried pressing the reset button and even double clicking it, but it makes no difference.

Same problem, I installed version .26, but no difference.

I tried to check if Arduino Cloud recognizes the board and can update it, but it didn't work.
Arduino Cloud doesn't detect it as an Arduino board.

Interesting for three reasons

  1. You never said that in your original post, so where did it come from?

  2. I remember in once of the documents, or something said by a member of the Arduino Teem, that the Arduino Q could be set so as not to need any cloud storage. As I do not have any cloud account maybe it is this that is stopping my Uno Q from being recognised.

  3. As any install does not ask the access questions about permissions to access my document files etc. then maybe a complete un install is necessary to wipe those clear, or maybe I could do it from the system preferences somewhere. I am reluctant to get some cloud storage as I don't like spending money, especially on a subscription.

Any luck with the ticket? My support ticket conversations dont look promising, something along along the lines of “re-install app lab and try again”

Since the Arduino Uno Q, as far as I know, will be able to connect to the cloud (if I'm not mistaken), I thought that—just like the Uno R4 WiFi—it might also be updated via the cloud, and that the same could apply to the Q.

I tried this first, now seems to work...

thanks for the feedback,

here’s some hints to start (hopefully) avoiding hurdles.

I suggest to start from here :https://docs.arduino.cc/tutorials/uno-q/user-manual/

where you will find all the information to begin working with the UNO Q.

If you are running App Lab from the desktop download the latest version here (at the time of writing is 0.1.26)

if for any reason you are getting errors on the updates from App Lab (using it from the desktop or in Single Board Computer mode) you can manually flash the Uno Q using the flasher tool , following the instructions here https://docs.arduino.cc/tutorials/uno-q/update-image/

During this very first period, the dev team is actively releasing either Linux images and App Lab versions, to add features and bugfixes, so expect updates often.

Hope this helps.

thanks!
