Hi, I'm totally new to this forum and have zero knowledge when it comes to electronics and software. I'm a CNC machinist and need to design and build a fibre optic respooler, where an amount of fibre is taken from a spool onto a tapered aluminium bar which is roughly 180mm diameter one end and 170mm dia the other x 300mm long. The reason it is tapered is to allow the fibre optic to be taken off with ease by hand. This bar will sit on bearings either end and be driven by a motor.
What I need is something which will enable me to select a given amount of revolutions and stop once the required amount/length of cable has been taken from the spool.
I have attached an image of one that is currently being used, which is driven by an old windscreen wiper motor and has a switch on the donor spool which counts the revolutions, but has to be stopped manually. Hopefully I have made sense and someone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
John.
I would make up a wheel / incremental rotary encoder / pinch wheel arrangement. What kind of length accuracy are you looking for?
Thanks JCA34F, I don't know the amount yet, but guessing 50m with a few metres of error.
Thanks Robin2
