Hello, i created a circuit from an arduino starter kit. A light is supposed to lit up when i press a button. But when i press the button nothing happens. When i put in the usb-cord the light on doesnt even lit up. It does lit up when i remove the red and black wires.
I was supposed to use a 220 ohm resistor, i found a four band resistor, with a red red blue blue colourcode. It should be red red black black, but my kit didnt provide that. Maybe that is the problem, i am not sure.
Yes the blink sketch works. In the sentence you mention I referred to the green light on the Arduino-plate. That light does not light up when I put in the cable, wile the project is connected.
I think I used the switch correctly, as you draw it.

This sounds like there is some sort of short in your circuit. To trouble shoot, you can break down into pieces. For example, with just the two red/black power wires connected to the breadboard, does the power light show? If all is good, then follow on from there adding elements. If the light is off at the first step then there maybe something defective with the breadboard.
@cattledog thank you that was it, the rows on the left were somehow defect. When I used the rows on the right it worked. Now I can push a button and the light lits up
I think I can use the rails on the right from now on? Of is the usage of both the left and right rows sometimes neccesary for more complicated projects?
As you move along in your Arduino adventures you will most likely need breadboards. I do have some projects where it is convenient to use both power rails.
You can ask the vendor for a replacement of the defective one supplied with the kit, and you would be getting ahead of the game to order a few more to have in stock.
