Forum etiquette - What to do when someone posts a threat in this forum?

Ok, this has gone beyond silly.

This goes to the bar, the original thread is locked.

Help!

I'm just studying some system analysis, and suddenly, the professor starts threatening me!

For the record, in the year to March 2017, England and Wales recorded just over 700 homicides, up 140 from the previous year, but I think this 20% increase may have been due in large part to the Hillsborough verdict (and we do only have about 20% of the population of the USA)

I can categorically state that no homicides were as a result of malicious misuse of goto.

You non-structured programmers can sleep easy tonight.

San Francisco/Bay Area/Silicon Valley has about as many murders as your entire conutry does.

This is not about goto, it's about the line "something bad will happnen".

As far as I know a killer has never given people those choices before shooting.

The poster did not make it a multiple choice answer.

Let it go, mate.

You're just looking silly now.

Edit: for vexatious reporting, @Doug101 will be enjoying a brief respite from the forum.

Or should that be the forum will be enjoying a brief respite from Doug101?

Whatever.

You are the bad thing happening to your own paranoid snowflake self.

You conflate the single line with actual happened murders?
Hey, this is a CODING FORUM and the concise answer that you wanted is that bad things will happen IN CODE AS WAS BEING DISCUSSED and it was YOU that took it out of context for an extra-CHEAP whining point.

If you're that stupid, that brainwashed stupid then how do expect to learn much? You chose how to take that line and that choice was to not learn but to bail out instead.

You're WRONG and you falsely accused another of making threats but somehow I bet that doesn't matter at all to you.

See something, take it completely beyond reality to be as infantile as you can and report that?
Because that is what your snowflake, emphasis on FLAKE, has done.
And you being a flake yourself has to defend that nonsense.

This is a very friendly forum except to TIME WASTERS AND OTHER JERKS.

"where computer gurus volunteer and pretend to be wise and gentle educators."

Show me where that is anything but some people's personal experience.

Better yet, why don't you SUE the forum members for not being what you would have. Good luck.

It's even worse, it's a case of post-modernist Social Justice Warrior Indoctrination. Oppressors and Victims, first to cry victim gets status, 1 - 2 - 3 RED LIGHT! Time to play "feels" while waiting for the Whaaaambulance.

Every so often we get a crank but these clowns are jerks.

Use the "Report to Moderator." If the ("a") moderator agrees with you, the post will likely be deleted, and the poster reprimanded, timeout-ed, or banned.

would you consider this ["Bad things will happen if you use GOTO"] to be a threat?

No.

Or, as in this case, the vexatious, time-wasting, trolling reporter will get a forum timeout.

westfw:

That. Threats of violence are met with an immediate permanent ban.

And, yes, the moderators have been subjected to direct threats. I vaguely recall one such person threatened to cross two oceans to exact "justice" after a few-day-timeout. All kinds crawl this Earth.

I assumed he meant his staff, and not his tribe/clan/race.

Also, "bad things will happen" is pretty much a technical-jargon colloquialism.

You can find it in books on programming, number stackoverflow posts, user manuals, and so on.
It pretty much means... well, it means that bad things are likely to happen... in ways that are difficult to predict, due to complexities that are difficult to explain at the level currently being discussed.

Searching "bad things will happen" site:microsoft.com - Google Search will give some good examples. Or at stackexchange, adafruit, sparkfun, eevblog ... pretty much any technical forum.

For example:
"don't modify a data structure referenced by a pointer after you have free()ed the pointer, or bad things will happen." What things exactly? We don't know, because we don't (can't?) know exactly what is using that memory next. Maybe nothing is using it, and nothing will happen. But on average, and eventually if you do this as a matter of habit, it won't be good...
