Hi
Is there a free version of SPRINT LAYOUT?
Not that I know about. Take a look at KiCad, it is very popular, free, and works very well from schematic capture to Gerbers for PCBs and all inbetween. It will also import from many other CAD programs.
???
I settled on DesignSpark. I've made a couple of simple-small boards (one chip and maybe 20 more components on the more-complicated one, and all through-hole.)
There are limitations in the free version but no "artificial limitations" like board size or number of layers, or anything that will affect what I'm doing.
I tried KiCad but I got frustrated trying to make a custom part by modifying a an existing part (already in the KiCad library). It wasn't exactly "easy" in DesignSpark but it was easier and I got it done.
I use ExpressPCB, but there is no option for Gerber, KiCad = I gave up after 2 hours.
It may be being blocked by Windows Defender, if you have no other AV software. You might have to add it as an exception, however, if it is a bootleg version I would highly recommend you do not run it as it probably has something in it Defender is detecting as malicous.
Also, I recommend EasyEDA or KiCad. EasyEDA I like because it has alot of community symbols & footprints for common components, and you can import KiCad/Eagle symbols and footprints off Digikey.
I have used the hated Fritzing to make some simple PC boards. It generates the Gerber and drill files that I could use with my DIY engraver to mill and drill the boards.
But I don't know if it is still free.
No longer free but maybe could build the software yourself…….
