Garage remote problem

Nothing to do with Arduino... but my 1997 garage door remote stopped working (pushing the button doesn't raise or lower the door anymore), and I'm hoping for test suggestions.

Things I've done:

  • installed fresh battery
  • checked the switch SW3...it works: 3.2 v across the diagonals goes to zero when the button is pressed
  • checked the electrolytic cap...DMM says it is 5 uF, as it should be
  • looked at everything with a 10x lens...all seems to be ok

  • Maybe the receiver ?

  • Try another new battery. (I got caught once thinking a spare battery was good )

I'd be suspicious of 25 year old electrolytic capacitor even if it does test OK.

Thanks @LarryD and @PerryBebbington.

Hmmm...good thought...but the outside "combination code" transmitter does still work (thank goodness). I forgot to mention that (...blush...) Will try another "new" battery

I piggybacked a 3.3 uF on the existing 4.7 and the behavior didn't change. Not sure if that's a valid test, though.

Cap is marked 7µF.

Are you sure? Looks like 4u7 to me.

Oops! I believe you are correct @PerryBebbington.
