GPS Logger Data Storage Options

Hey guys,

I've decided to make a GPS Logger/Tracker project but I'm not too sure on the method of storing the data. I know there are many project sites out there that do this project, but I'm a bit more of a beginner on projects like this so I was wondering what method of data storage you guys thought would be best/easiest. I was thinking USB memory stick or an SD card? Pros/Cons of each? Thanks everyone!

Steve

If you haven't gotten anything yet, or don't own a GPS unit, you might look at the Adafruit logger shield:

And GPS Module:
EM-406A GPS Module : ID 99 : $60.00 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits.

There are good tutorials on building the shield and a couple of different sample sketches on the products home page.

It uses an SD card for logging, and you can get some pretty large ones for very little $$, if you don't already have one left over from something else.

I've been very happy with mine.

I already have the parallax gps until which is pretty much why I figured I'd give this a shot. I can still use that shield though i was thinking one of the plain SD card shields might work just as well? How is the programming with something like this?

I'd probably say programming complexity is the biggest concern for the data storage part of this project
