Have you worked out how much power you will be dissipating in the regulator?

I was testing with a large (470uF) and a small ceramic capacitor on both sides of the 7815, but they didn't make any difference to the errors.

Thanks for pointing this out - I'll make sure I put the correct bypass capacitors in when I put it all together for the tanks.

The depth sensor operates at only max 25mA and the input voltage to the regulator is 18v so I doubt it will exceed the power dissipation.
