Grove Beginner Kit for Arduino (by Seeed Studio) not detected on Windows 10 PC

Hi,

My problem is exactly what's in the title; I recently purchased the Grove Beginner Kit for Arduino. When plugged into my Windows 10 laptop the board receives power and starts running some default program (which reads different sensor values and outputs them to the LCD). But my laptop doesn't recognise the board at all; I see no change in the device manager (not even 'unknown device' appears) and it doesn't make the characteristic Windows ping sound.

I've already checked my USB ports are working by plugging in/out a wired mouse and an Arduino Uno that I've used before (both of which appear just fine).

The only instruction on the website is to download the driver CP2102 driver for my OS which I think I've done correctly (I downloaded CP210x Windows Drivers and ran the x64 installer). Is there another way I can check the driver was installed properly?

I repeated the above steps on another laptop I own running Windows 11. It didn't seem to work for that laptop either but some other forums online suggested that the drivers might not be compatible with Windows 11 anyway.

I don't think this is a driver issue.

In order for that to be true, your W10 laptop needs to detect the presence of the USB device. That clearly isn't happening as as you say that device manager doesn't detect a new device and no USB connect sound is heard.

Does the kit come with a USB cable or did you use your own? Have you tried different USB cables as it's possible that you have a charge-only USB cable which doesn't include the D+ and D- wires.

It came with a brand new cable, but I just went and tried about 5 other cables I had sitting at home ... as luck would have it the 6th worked! Thanks

I had the same problem. My computer saw the port but there was no driver for it (even though I downloaded and installed the driver beforehand). Had to manually install the driver (ft_232_all) in the device manager, then it worked.
