have new Arduino Starter Kit - cant get IDE; or Arduino.exe to run

downloaded Windows zip file and unzipped but cant get any further. I ran Arduino.exe and it says I need something from Java. Is this correct ? I went to Java and looked at was available but nothing for my 32 bit Windows system. Do I need Java and what version if so.
thanks, joe

Yes, you need Java. And yes, you can find it for a 32-bit system (although 32-bit is stupid nowadays...) on java.com just fine. In fact, the 32-bit Java is still the default...

And why did you not just download the Arduino installer and instead went with the zip?

Thanks - working now that I tried installer again; I must already have Java since it did not ask for it again.
